Keep The Fun Flowing

Chase Daniel will get his second start this season after an impressive game against the Lions on Thanksgiving.  As Chase preps to face the Giants, I'll be working up a Texas-size menu to thank him for last week's performance.

The Texas-inspired menu will try to evoke the toney community of Southlake, Texas where Chase led his high school to the 5A State Championship and was named 5A State Player of the Year in 2004.

Southlake, Texas is home to a long list of notables including Terry Bradshaw. So what does a Bears fan cook for such an illustrious group? Let's get cooking for a Giant-size win!

TGIFF

"Our Starters Are Better Than Your Second String" Somehow I don't think that bumper sticker is going to fly off the shelves.  Bears fans should be glad we don't have to play Eli Manning's Giants this year.

The night began with a hearty Thank God it's Football Friday, by half-time my enthusiasm was fading. The announcers shared my attitude when they declared twice in the second quarter that the Bears were having "no fun at all." The substitute referees didn't seem to be having much fun either.

With one quarter remaining for the players to show what they've got before this week's big roster pruning, Joe Anderson made a beautify leaping catch followed by a touchdown run to give the Bears a 2-1 pre-season record.

The magic of television allowed Eli Manning to appear on the Letterman Show "Live from New York City" after the game. Speaking of New York, my New York Strip was delicious. The Merlot Sea Salt added a delightful finish. TGIFF Pre-Season (Thank God it is Finally Finished.) Now we're on to the real season. Bear Down Chicago Bears!

Giantly Terrible Football

There was some bad mo-jo last year when the Bears visited the Meadowlands. Tonight they return to the scene of the crime and, even though it's Pre-Season, Bears fans will be looking for the offensive line to hold tough. In interviews, many players are touting the fact that they bulked up over the off-season. Cutler says he's been working on his footwork. For my part, I think a Giant Black and Blue salad is the perfect selection. Of course, I'm expecting the Black and Blue to be on the Giants - not da Bears. Come on guys, protect those Quarterbacks!

Bob Simpson, are you ready?

And the Winner Is ...

Thanks to Terry Lenaghan for his input. I've decided to go with the Giant Fat Sandwich as a nod to the Grease Trucks of Rutgers University and New York's Italian heritage. Here's the recipe:

3 LB Sirloin Tip Roast
32 Ounces Beef Broth
1 package of Good Seasons Zesty Italian Salad Dressing
1 jar Pepperoncini Peppers
1 jar Giardiniera
1/4 cup Mike Ditka's Hall of Fame Salsa

Spray your crockpot with Pam. Add all ingredients and cook on Low for 18-24 hours turning every 6 hours.

Pull apart with a fork and serve on Hoagie Rolls topped with choices of:
  • Mozzarella Cheese
  • Cooked Onions and/or Cooked Green Peppers
  • Tomatoes
  • More Mike Ditka Salsa
  • Cole Slaw
Hopefully this sandwich will slow down Eli Manning and his team. Kick off is 7:20 CST on NBC. Go Bears! I'll be doing my part.

New York Giants

This week the Bears face the New York Giants. Who has a suggestion for the menu? It can be confusing because the New York Giants are actually from New Jersey. I've been thinking deli or Italian; Pastrami or Italian Beef or .... Help me here folks.
