Wow! The season that should have been is officially over. We saw some rare emotion from Jay Cutler, including a temper flare at the very end. We also saw some exceptional play from him. Oh, but those darn interceptions.
Robbie stumbled a bit and we're not used to that. And the injuries made it seem as if, ever week, Cutler was playing on a different team. This week there were few to no receivers. No wonder he lost his cool!
The big question is, who will we see next year in a Bears uniform? Every time the announcers talked about how this could be Forte's last time in a Bears jersey, I wanted to punch the television. Please Virginia, for the love of all that is good and golden, keep Matt Forte.
Readers of this blog probably remember my connection to Detroit. My relatives are in Detroit and are huge sports fans. So, this is personal. I went with a personal meal that almost did the trick. I was so confident that Cutler would pull it off and then .... the interception. You did not want to be in my living room when that happened. I will be asking forgiveness for the words that came out of my mouth.
In any case, I made my best chili recipe to wrap up this horrible season of hopefulness.
Best Chili
Ingredients:
1/2 LB ground beef or turkey [use turkey for less fat, you won't know the difference with all the spices]
1.2 LB stew meat cut in small bite size pieces
1/2 onion, diced
2 cans chili beans
1 can tomato sauce
Salt, Pepper, Chili Powder, Cumin to taste
A few shakes of Steak and Shake pepper juice and/or Tabasco
1/4 -1/3 cup Salsa
Pinch of Rosemary (because it's personal and Detroit has a lot of Greek influences)
Directions:
1. Add onions and meat - brown and then drain [Put your colander over a bowl so you don't get grease in your drain. After this season, you don't want the added pain of a plumbing bill.]
2. Add beans, tomato sauce and seasonings.
3. Simmer and build up the chili powder and cumin until you've reached your comfortable level of spice.
4. Serve over spaghetti if you're part of my mother's family.
